“…like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later
have no idea who they are or what they look like …” James 1:23 MSG
As I snuggled by the fireplace, the worries of being cold turned to thoughts of my Tabernacle study and the water basin made of highly polished bronze. The High Priest not only washed his hands in it, but probably saw the reflection of his face. Like the Priest, I need to examine myself—to cleanse my heart—before coming to the Lord. So, I turned to Psalm 139:23, 24 and laid my Bible on the floor before I knelt at the Lord’s feet…that’s when I saw them.
One pink sock and one purple! I laughed out loud. “Lord, obviously I need to turn on the lights when I dress to examine myself from head to toe.”
Examine myself. My giggles
turned to tears; my dirty heart reflected back at me. “What a perfect picture
of living without daily self-examination, without the light of Your Word, and
without intently looking into Your Mirror.”
“But don’t just listen to God’s word.
You must do what it says.
Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
For if you listen to the word and don’t obey,
it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.
You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free,
and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard,
then God will bless you for doing it.” James 1:22-25 NLT
(After my laughter and tears, after my prayer of confession, I prayed for God to tickle you pink…and purple. Please let me know how He tickles your soul)
