“‘For
I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord.
‘They are plans for good and
not for disaster,
to give you a future and a hope.’” Jeremiah
29:11 nlt
Over the past seven months my husband and I have frequently
been asked… “Why are you moving again?” “Why did you move to Montana?” On the surface,
the move is because my husband accepted a new job position in a new city and
state. But deep down, we both know it’s because God has a plan and a purpose
for us in this place.
So, what is God’s purpose and plan for my husband and me at
this time in this particular place? We don’t know yet, but we are certain we
will eventually know. Why am I so confident of this?
Experience;
experience in walking by faith and not by sight. Experience in seeking His
will, and following His call. Experience in trusting and obeying with an
available heart.
One such experience was almost 15 years ago, when we heard
Him call us to homeschool our two sons—one being a freshman in high school.
There were naysayers as well as cheerleaders standing on the sidelines of our
family in this decision.
On the surface, it began with a need to make a change, an
intervention into their education and social influences. We sought the Lord
through prayer as we researched our options. As we did, it became clear to our
entire family homeschooling was the right choice, and no matter what those on
the sidelines said, we knew God was calling us to take this path.
What began as educational and social reasons soon turned to
completely different reasons. Purposes going beyond our wildest dreams!
Both boys grew in godly wisdom, knowledge, and
understanding. Being five years apart in age and as different as night and day,
our sons became best of friends. They supported one another in their
differences, and joined forces in their likenesses. As a family, we were
blessed with a stronger bond than we could have ever imagined possible. Today,
the bond continues and our adult sons are men of moral integrity contributing
to society with learning minds.
God’s plans and His purposes were bigger than ours.
Discerning God’s plan and His purpose are not easy to see or
understanding in the beginning, but when He opens the doors and invites a
willing, trusting participant to join Him, He will lead the way.
Have you heard or felt God tug at your heart to participate
in a plan and purpose bigger than you could ever imagine? Are you open to His
plans and His purposes?
Do you believe “...that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love
God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 nasb
My keys to discernment:
- Seek God
- Be in His Word
- Do the research
- Seek wise counsel
- Trust and obey
- Walk by Faith and not by sight
