Many across the United States and Canada are crying out for
Spring to come quickly. The winter-weather-woes are rapidly sinking into full
blown depression. The extreme cold—below freezing temperatures (32ºF/0ºC)—plus
snow and ice has held its grip for a couple of months. And my heart aches for
them. My prayers are lifted for them regularly.
The cold keeps one inside. The snow creates havoc on getting
to our everyday places. And gray overcast skies day after day nearly do me in. (Okay,
they have done me in. They’re the days you’ll find me weeping over most
anything.)
S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) is a good acronym for
it. I simply call it “seasonal depression.” No matter the official name, it
makes one sad.
So what can one do about it? We certainly can’t force winter
to go away. Begging for spring to come doesn’t make it happen any faster.
Some things I do to fight my yearly battle are to:
- Take increased dosage of vitamin D
(check with your
doctor)
- If warm enough (not too cold or snowy),
I bundle up and
go for a 15-30 minute walk
- Listen to uplifting music
- Watch a movie that makes me laugh out loud
(Tim Conway
ones rank high on my list)
I don’t think spring has been cancelled this year. I’m
pretty sure it will return with crocus, tulips, and daffodils bursting with
color, and birds gathering nesting twigs and grasses. My surety comes from the Lord:
Seedtime and harvest,
And cold and heat,
And summer and winter,
And day and night
Shall not cease.”
Genesis
8:22
We’ll get through this season. Hang in
there. Encourage one another with the promises of the Lord. God cannot lie. His word is truthworthy and true.
What do you do to get through the gray,
cold, snowy days of this long winter?
Is there a movie that makes you laugh out
loud? You know the kind that makes your sides hurt, makes you cry, or even better/worse, makes you ____ your pants!
until Spring returns!!!
